Our products have been scientifically designed for an advanced playing style called face-on putting (also known as side-saddle putting), which is a legal stance according to the United States Golf Association. Pioneered by Samuel Snead (also known as “The Slammer”, “Slammin’ Sammy Snead”, and “The Long Ball Hitter from West Virginia”) who was an American professional golfer widely regarded as one of the greatest golf players of all time.

These putters combine an extensive knowledge of the face-on stroke with a philosophy that facing the target with “Binocular Vision” is the best way to play and provide any golfer (not just those suffering from yips) a much better view of the line of the putt than the traditional stance.

Golf Putting FAQs

Is the face-on putting style legal?2021-09-21T22:42:59+00:00

Face-on putting (also known as side-saddle putting or straight-forward putting) is 100% legal by United States Golf Association’s official rules and can be used in any tournament around the world so long as the player does not anchor the club or intentionally hold a forearm against the body to create an anchor point.

This is not to be confused with croquet-style putting, which was banned by the USGA back in 1968 by amending Rule 35-1 after aging golf legend Sam Snead adopted it in an attempt to overcome the yips.

However, the USGA Rules Department changed positions on its croquet-style putting ban with Rule 16-1e, which is limited to the putting green. Since there is no similar prohibition for a stroke of this kind made from off the putting green, a golf player can use a croquet-style putting stance from off the putting green.

What are yips?2021-09-21T00:55:17+00:00

The yips are a real condition that affect people who frequently type, write, play a musical instrument, or engage in certain sports activities  — such as cricket, darts, baseball, and golf. Essentially, they are involuntary wrist spasms said to be caused by a neurological disorder, performance anxiety, or a mixture of both. The term “yips” is said to have been popularized by Tommy Armour who was a golf champion in the 1920’s and 1930’s—to explain the difficulties that led him to abandon tournament play. In describing the yips, golfers have used terms such as twitches, staggers, jitters and jerks.

What is face-on putting?2021-09-21T21:58:39+00:00

Face-on putting (otherwise known as side-saddle putting or straight-forward putting) is an effective putting technique where a golfer putts with his/her body facing the hole and the ball to his/her right or left (depending on the dominant hand of the player). This technique does comply with the United States Golf Association’s official rules as long as the golfer does not straddle the putt’s line. It was popularized by golf legend Sam Snead back in the 1960’s as an effective way to combat the yips.

Why is face-on putting so effective?2021-09-21T22:06:31+00:00

Proponents of face-on putting (otherwise known as side-saddle putting or straight-forward putting) say that the swing motion is similar to throwing a ball under-handed, making it more natural than the traditional stroke. This technique also eliminates hand and wrist action to ensure a more consistent pendulum-like swing and promotes increased accuracy. As a result, the club is reliably on the putting line. Also, since you face the hole you use both eyes (also called “binocular vision”), which gives you a truer picture of the putting line.

What equipment do you need for face-on putting?2021-09-21T22:09:47+00:00

Putting face-on (otherwise known as side-saddle putting or straight-forward putting) requires a long putter (usually between 45 inches and 55 inches long depending on the height of the player), and preferably one with a very upright lie angle.

How do you putt face-on if you are right handed?2021-09-22T00:16:08+00:00

Putting face-on (otherwise known as side-saddle putting or straight-forward putting) can be a little awkward when trying it for the first time, especially if you’re used to the traditional stance. Here’s a basic primer for face-on putting if you’re right-handed:

  1. Stand facing the hole or your intended line.
  2. The ball should be a few inches outside and in front of the little toe on your right foot.
  3. Anchor the putter grip just inside the right shoulder with your left hand.
  4. Bending forward, place your right hand on the shaft about halfway down. (A lot of long putters have a second grip in that area for this reason).
  5. The shaft should be at a 90-degree angle to the ground.
  6. Stroke the ball using your right hand, holding the top of the club against your body with the left.
  7. Look for a golf putter model that has a beveled toe sole of about 10 degrees. This will help with your setup options for an upright lie angle.
